BIG BOY BENJI🐶❤️🐾 Benji is a 4-year-old bully mix with loads of personality, who is always down to have some fun!

Benji came to HAP when his owners could no longer care for him. While he was a little anxious his first few weeks at the shelter, Benji has become quite the volunteer favorite. He greets everyone he meets with a big hug and smooch, as he loves being with people. To help get his energy out, Benji has loved participating in our Doggy Day Out program! Here’s what our volunteers had to say about him:

“We were so lucky to take Benji out. Despite the chilly weather and some snow, he was still eager to enjoy a walk outside at the Riverfront. He is such a goofball and is a joy to be around. He walked extremely well on a leash and didn’t pull at all, he was so gentle. He was very friendly with everyone he met and was honestly a big hit with everyone. He saw dogs at a distance but didn’t react. When we came back to our house, he was happy to relax and enjoy a bone from the pet store. Benji has such a great temperament and his goofball personality is really what won is over.” - Beth

“Absolutely LOVED my time with Benji! Benji is so handsome and such a lover boy. He never made a peep the whole time! Jumped in the car, rode like a good boy just laying down or looking out the window. We let him run around for a bit and then headed for a nice long walk at Bellevue, he loved to walk and sniff! We saw horses, deer, squirrels and other dogs, even cats at the shelter, and while he was interested he made no effort to try to get to them and would keep walking. He knows sit and wait, and thoroughly enjoyed his treats! He’s a big goof who just wants to play and love on everyone! We ended our trip getting him a hot dog at Jimmy John’s - Benji approved!” - Jordan

MAEVE HAS A REQUEST📢‼️With single digit temperatures, our staff and volunteers are in need of hand warmers!!

Many of our pups, like Maeve, enjoy the snowy weather and want to spend longer times outside playing or walking! While our team is fully bundled up, this cold weather is dangerous for their hands, even with gloves. Our staff wants to provide exercise and enrichment for all our snow-loving pups, but they would love some hand warmers to keep them warm!

Stanton/Christiana and Wilmington are open from 12 PM - 7 PM today to accept donations! Hand warmers are sold at most large stores such as Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, Walgreens, and more!

Rest assured, we have plenty of dog sweaters and jackets to keep our pups warm when they’re outside, along with amazing heaters indoors!

MEET JOZI🐱💕✨ This #HAPMeowyMonday we are introducing one of our longest residents at HAP Rehoboth Beach, miss Jozi!

Jozi is a silly and sweet girl, just under 3 years old. She came to HAP when her owner was no longer able to care for her. After living in a home, Jozi is longing for love and attention in the shelter environment. She loves being pet, sitting on your lap, or lounging by your side. She currently resides in our free-roaming room, where she is tolerant of other kitties and prefers to do her own thing. She enjoys climbing high up on cat trees, usually to keep an eye on our pups as they play in nearby rooms. Jozi also likes to chase toys around and snack on yummy cat treats in her free time. If you’ve been looking for a laid-back and loving cat, then come meet this adorable girl!
