HAP aims to provide greater access to low-cost veterinary care for local pet owners and promote the importance of spay/neuter with week-long promotion
Humane Animal Partners (HAP), a statewide animal welfare organization with locations in Wilmington, Stanton/Christiana, and Rehoboth Beach, is offering 20% off all cat and dog spay surgeries, plus a free microchip, from Tuesday, February 28 – Friday, March 3 in honor of World Spay Day on February 28. Launched in 1995, World Spay Day is an annual campaign that encourages people to save animal lives by spaying and neutering companion animals and feral cats.
HAP Stanton/Christiana offers low-cost spay/neuter services to the public every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. HAP Wilmington offers low-cost spay/neuter services every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The World Spay Day promotion is valid at both HAP Wilmington and Stanton/Christiana locations for spay surgeries only.
A “spay” is a general term used to describe the medical procedure conducted on a female animal so that she can no longer have litters. The procedure is done with the animal under general anesthesia and consists of a small incision in the abdomen to remove the reproductive organs. Recovery is generally quick, and most cats and dogs can go home the day of surgery and are back to normal within a week.
Spaying and neutering helps keep the population of cats and dogs more manageable to ensure fewer animals are left homeless. HAP believes in spaying and neutering as a moral imperative. Millions of cats and dogs are euthanized every year because there are simply not enough homes for all of them. Spaying and neutering pets is an important part of the solution and helps pets live happier, healthier, and longer lives.
