TEN YEARS YOUNG🐾🌞 This #HAPFosterFriday we are introducing a senior gentleman who is loving life in a foster home!

Tiko is a 10-year-old black lab looking for a home to live out his golden years! Tiko came to HAP when his owners could no longer care for him. He swiftly went into a temporary foster home, to avoid causing him age-related stress at the shelter. Here’s what his foster has to say about him:

“When Tiko first arrived, he was noticeably very sad and confused. With being surrendered as a senior dog, he was definitely in shock and we did everything we could to reassure him he’s safe and loved. It didn’t take long for him to warm up and find joy and comfort in our home. Tiko is an absolute sweetheart. Tiko is house-trained, leash-trained, knows basic commands, and has amazing manners. He loves his memory foam dog bed, but not as much as the couch! He is a big couch potato, but also loves neighborhood walks & playing in the yard with his foster dog brothers! He also loves to “parade” around the house when someone comes over. He picks a favorite toy and proudly parades around the house wagging his big tail! Tiko has such a big heart and he will be an amazing companion to his forever family! He is a very happy go lucky boy!”

Given the warm temperatures towards the end of 2024, we are still welcoming newborn kittens and expecting an earlier start to kitten season this year too! SWEET SAPPHIRE🐶🧡 This #HAPWoofWednesday we are introducing a pup who is longing to find a home!

Meet our 2-year-old pittie mix, Sapphire! She came to HAP when her owners were no longer able to care for her. Coming to the shelter environment has been a challenging adjustment for her. Many adopters have overlooked Sapphire because she is usually barking or jumping in her kennel. Despite this, Sapphire is a huge cuddle bug and very affectionate with people outside, away from the stressful kennel environment! She has even done well meeting some other dogs, though she can be selective. Sapphire has loved participating in our Doggy Day Out program, here’s what one volunteer had to say about her:

“I had a lovely day with Sapphire. She’s such a sweet and calm dog! We started the day with a walk around the neighborhood. Sapphire walked great on the leash! When we got to the house, Sapphire cuddled up on the couch for some attention and then napped for the rest of the day. She must have needed her sleep! Sapphire is a lovely and calm dog. She’s very well-behaved and easygoing. And in the little time she was awake I could tell she’s very smart! Sapphire would make a great pet for anyone!” - Zoe
