Delaware Humane Association to Host Virtual Reopening Event to Celebrate Completion of Rehoboth Beach Adoption Center Renovation
DHA’s state of the art adoption center renovation finalized in Sussex County
WILMINGTON, DE, March 18, 2021 – Delaware Humane Association (DHA), a statewide animal welfare organization with adoption centers in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, is celebrating the completion of their Rehoboth Beach Adoption Center renovation with a free virtual event on Thursday, April 1st at 12 PM. The livestream virtual event, hosted on DHA’s Facebook page, will include a full tour of the new center, a red-carpet catwalk as adoptable cats and dogs reenter the center, and free giveaways including gift baskets and custom pet portraits by Sunny Day Critters Illustrations. This free, virtual event celebrates the soft reopening of DHA’s doors in Sussex County in a safe and COVID-conscious way.
The Rehoboth Beach renovation broke ground in November 2020, thanks to the support of countless donors and community supporters. The renovation will now allow DHA to meet increasing demand for adoptable pets in Sussex County in a safe and comfortable environment, and enhances the overall adoption experience for both pets and families. The renovated center will further enable DHA Rehoboth to rehome animals whose families can no longer care for them, and follows a “fear free” design using stress reducing colors and kennel layouts to reduce sight lines of other dogs and cats. Other improvements include: new, easier to clean kennels; separate rooms for adopters to meet and interact with the animals; isolation areas for animals needing special care; and a washer and dryer so that DHA staff can clean all the necessary linens used to care for animals on site.
Four years ago, DHA opened its Rehoboth adoption center to better serve Sussex County. DHA’s mission of “making friends for life” is partially fulfilled by matching dogs, puppies, cats and kittens with their forever families. The DHA Rehoboth center also contributes to the community with low-cost pet vaccine clinics and pet food pantries. Staff and volunteers assist with food banks, host social gatherings for animal lovers, and augment community engagement efforts through partnerships with local businesses. DHA Rehoboth accounts for approximately one-third of DHA’s overall adoptions and has a dedicated community of over 100 volunteers who walk, train, socialize, and foster the animals in need.
While DHA Rehoboth has animals back in the center, it is still operating by appointment only due to COVID-19 protocols. Folks who are interested in adopting a pet can browse available cats and dogs on the DHA website, and submit a virtual application. Upon approval, DHA staff will reach out directly to set up socially distanced meet and greet appointments.
DHA embodies the spirit “making friends for life” by connecting animals in need with loving members of the Sussex County and larger Delaware communities. It’s because of DHA’s supporters that they are able to continue to support homeless or injured animals and find loving families to care for them. To attend the virtual event, tune into DHA’s Facebook page at facebook.com/delawarehumane on Thursday, April 1st at 12PM.
